Drive Home
Your safety net for every drive
AI safety companion for solo drives — assess your route and conditions before you leave, then activate the check-in timer so someone always knows you made it.
Overview
DriveHome is a safety net for solo drives, not a navigation app. Setup tab: enter your from/to locations, select conditions, road type, and how you're feeling — the AI assesses your specific drive with watch-for items, a pre-drive checklist, and an honest take if you're tired or anxious. Then set a check-in timer and copy a Watch-For-Me message to send before you leave. Drive tab: the timer counts down and asks 'Are you safe?' when it expires. If you don't respond within 30 seconds, the emergency alarm triggers automatically. Share Location and one-tap Emergency are always available. Emergency contacts are shared with SafeWalk — set once, used in both.
How to use it
- SETUP TAB: Enter where you're driving from and to (include city and state). Select time of day, road conditions, road type, and how you're feeling. Tap 'Assess My Drive' for a tailored safety briefing.
- Review the checklist and check off items. If you're tired or anxious, read the Honest Take — it's there for a reason.
- Set your check-in timer (how long the drive should take), copy the Watch-For-Me message and send it to your primary contact, then tap 'Start Drive'.
- DRIVE TAB: The timer counts down. When it expires, tap 'I'm Safe' to confirm you arrived. If you need more time, tap +15 or +30 min. If you don't respond within 30 seconds, the alarm triggers automatically.
- Use Share Location to copy your GPS coordinates into a ready-to-send text at any point during the drive.
- SETTINGS: Add emergency contacts — the primary contact's name appears in alerts and the Watch-For-Me message. Contacts are shared with SafeWalk.
Example
Scenario: Driving home from a friend's house at midnight in a snowstorm, about 45 minutes on the highway.
What you do: Enter 'From: 45 Elm St, Brookline, MA', 'To: Home, Arlington, MA'. Select 'Late night', 'Snow / Ice', 'Highway', and 'Fine'. Tap Assess.
Result: AI flags reduced visibility and longer stopping distances on the specific highway, recommends a checklist item for tires and wipers, and generates an ETA message. You copy the Watch-For-Me message to your partner, set a 55-minute timer (buffer built in), and start the drive. When the timer expires, you tap 'I'm Safe' from the parking lot.
Tips
- Add a primary emergency contact in Settings — their name appears in the Watch-For-Me message and emergency alerts
- Set the timer slightly longer than your expected drive — you can always tap 'I'm Safe' early
- The 30-second auto-alarm countdown appears when the timer expires — tap any button to stop it
- Share Location copies your GPS as a Google Maps link — paste it into any messaging app in one tap
- Contacts set in DriveHome are also available in SafeWalk, and vice versa
Common pitfalls
- DriveHome does not have real-time traffic or road condition data — the AI assessment uses the conditions you select
- Location sharing requires browser location permission — grant it before starting the drive, not mid-drive
- The check-in timer runs in-browser — keep the tab open or the timer may not fire on some mobile browsers
